A High Quality Addition To The Chesterfield Hospital Campus

Derbyshire Support and Facilities Service (DSFS) have commissioned Southgate & Sarabia Architects to develop design proposals for a new health and well-being hub at Chesterfield Royal Hospital (CRH).

The purpose of the Hub is to provide a place whereby CRH employees and associates can engage in regular activity intended to enhance their mental and physical wellbeing. The facility aims to enhance the daily experience of the CRH workforce; broadening the reach, impact and value of its existing well-being programme.

It will pro-actively address the objectives set out within the NHS People Plan. These include providing employees with a healthy working environment; a destination to engage in physical activity; to utilise spaces and tools to rest and recuperate; to receive psychological support and treatment; to provide rehabilitation and supported return to work plans and above all an opportunity to enjoy the workplace and be empowered to thrive.

The single storey new build will provide an open plan gym area with free weights and cardio equipment, along with 2 multi-purpose studio spaces for exercise classes, which can open up to one large space. There are several multi-use spaces for one to one meetings or larger spaces for group discussions and workshops. There is a reception area with a seating area and vending machines, so staff can come and get away from their department for a coffee break or lunch break.

The facility has been design to be fully inclusive. The changing facilities are gender neutral, so all staff use the facility within individual shower and changing cubicles, to ensure all members of staff feel included and catered for when using the new facility.

The final proposals are intended to be a high-quality addition to the Chesterfield Hospital Campus that makes a positive contribution to the local context.
