Lord Mayor Of Sheffield Opens Whirlow Hall Farm Trust SEN Educational Building

By Darren Southgate

Very proud of this project, supporting a Charitable Trust with the design and delivery of a fabulous new SEN Educational Building. Opened by the 125th Lord Mayor of Sheffield, Sioned-Mair Richards, on Saturday 29th October 2022, almost a year to the day when the last WHFT project, the Café, Visitors Centre, and Shop were opened by the 124th Lord Mayor; this time cutting a Halloween inspired ribbon. Keith Lilley addressed the crowd, welcoming the Lord Mayor, thanking the trustees, volunteers, distinguished guests, the operational team and reflecting on the importance of helping young people from all backgrounds, giving a short synopsis of how and why the Trust exists. The facilities have just finished and been fitted out, with teaching activities starting this week, supporting the onward work of the Charitable Trust’s core educational activities moving forward. The Board should be praised for its vision, Hugh Facey for his considerable contribution, Ben Davies CEO, Keith Lilley Chairman of the Board, current and past trustees for their input and drive and all the volunteers with particular thanks to the educational team for their insight and knowledge. Ben Davies, undertook client day to day decision making and drove the scheme with his experience from earlier projects, managing through difficult economic times. Helen and Liesl from SASA worked with Brightside Construction, Tony, Karen and Dale Gaffney and their team, on a simplified agricultural vernacular teaching building, keeping within budget but also maintain a quality end product. Brightside came forward with a number of value engineering ideas, which really helped the process of budgeting. David Wall from Redux-sys supported Brightside with onsite project management and health and safety requirements. Tim Castle from Castle Owen provided early cost and project management support services for the scheme and Andy Marshall from Eastwood & Partners structural and civil. DLP obtained the original planning consent for the site and latterly the discharge of conditions.
